Fort Carré and the Tour de l'Etoile
This defensive structure was classed as a Historic Monument in 1991.
It is located above the town, at the Pla de Les Fourques.
The Fort Carré has now been restored by the local authorities, and now you can go on guided tours with cultural mediators from the Maison du Fauvisme.
Popularly known as the 'Heights of Justice',
this was the site for public executions during the Middle Ages.
In the 18th century, a fortifications were built to improve and consolidate the defences of Fort Miradou, built by Vauban in the 17th century.
Thus, these forts protected the outskirts of the town and surveyed the west coast of the valley of Ravanel.
