ANTONIO MACHADO COMMEMORATION DAY

Come along to the Day of Commemoration in honour of Antonio Machado, the famous Spanish poet.
Join us on Sunday 22 February 2026 from 9am to 5pm at the Collioure Cultural Centre.

The day will begin with an institutional introduction, followed by a lecture by Carlos Gil Andrés, History teacher at the IES Inventor Cosme García in Logroño (La Rioja), entitled “A struggle of toil and hope. The vibrant teaching of Antonio Machado”.

This will be followed by a round table discussion entitled “My first contact with Antonio Machado”, featuring members of the jury for the Antonio Machado 2026 International Prize for Literature.

The morning will continue with a recitation of poems by our poet, accompanied by music; followed by the distribution of the school prizes for secondary school pupils; then the Antonio Machado 2026 International Prize for Literature, followed by a public tribute in front of the poet’s grave at Collioure Municipal Cemetery.

In the afternoon, the concert-performance “Beyond Memory” will be presented, with Sensi Falán performing the Republican Exile, accompanied by an audiovisual production by María Núñez.

From 20 February to 26 March 2026, the Antonio Machado Media Library in Collioure will also be showcasing the exhibition “Constructing Memory: A Comic Strip Journey through the Blue Days of Antonio Machado”, by Cecília Hill and Josep Salvia.
