EPHEMERIS" EXHIBITION AT THE CHÂTEAU ROYAL
The Friday 05 December at 10 a.m00
Château royal, Quai de l'Amirauté 66190 COLLIOURE
The Château Royal invites you to discover the "Ephéméride" exhibition created by Michel Tisnès.
Michel Tisnès, a former teacher, lives and works on the Côte Vermeille.
His works – which could be classed as art brut – are made from a variety of elements: recycled waste, driftwood, used scrap metal, painted figures, pieces of text, and so on. These elements, generally diverted from their original function, take on a new meaning. Boats, whether built from recycled wood or painted, under repair in a shipyard, are among the most commonly observed elements. Michel’s interest in raw materials as a primary source of inspiration is reflected in the objects he shapes, which are part of his everyday life but also an invitation to explore the imaginary.
For a long time now, Michel Tisnès has been collecting everything he comes across on his walks: objects and bits and pieces that have been abandoned, lost, found or saved from oblivion. Michel Tisnès gives them a new life by giving them a new meaning and an appropriate place in his arrangements. From these hundreds of misappropriated objects emerge stories that visitors, if they pay even the slightest attention, will be able to decipher or tell themselves.
A cabinet of curiosities, a collection, an ex voto or a comic strip?
A unique production, distinctive in its manufacture and its various components. A mixture of discarded objects diverted from their original use and a multitude of characters and eyes that seem to question you.
It’s not a question of discourse, but of letting the eye and the discovery express themselves freely, welcoming the surprise. Although the paintings deal with specific and constant subjects such as vanity, the ephemeral and the symbolic, they do not tell a single story but rather a multitude of stories that arouse the viewer’s wonder and curiosity.
Paintings of various images and objects are forged, each form is isolated and framed, the themes are fragmented and the reading is localised. In this way, each viewer can envisage a personal interpretation.
