Discover the new exhibition at the Collioure Museum of Modern Art: ""We are not Fauves"" !
Collioure owes its reputation to the arrival, in 1905, of Henri Matisse and André Derain. This trip gave birth to the first great artistic movement of the 20th century, Fauvism, making Collioure the crucible of a modernity which affirms the omnipotence of color.
Both premise and high point, Fauvism sets the tone for an artistic history which constantly looks towards color and light as avenues for new expressiveness.
Through a journey through the museum's collections, it is not the history of Fauvism that is written but that of the legacy left by Matisse and Derain in Collioure and the way in which the artists took hold of it, between devotion and iconoclasm.
