Antonio Machado fled Franco's regime to arrive in Port Bou on the 27th January 1939.
He arrived in Collioure in poor health, and died in a room in the Hôtel de Collioure on the 22nd February 1939.
His tomb rests in Collioure and has become a symbol of exiles from Franco's dictatorship.
